Final remarks (Portugal)

With the meeting in Tisovec/Slovakia, from May the 28th to June the 1st, another Comenius Project came to the end. It was time for reflection and evaluation of a two years’ work that involved students and teachers in ecological challenges. Everybody agreed on the success of this project at every level. In a Europe that we wish to be more and more united, the ecological problems are similar and the ways to deal with them have to be taken together.

A reminder to all countries!

Hello everyone,
This is just a quick reminder regarding the up-coming mobility to Norway.
1. Remember that you need to send you poster work to Norway soon. We need to get the exhibition ready for the visit in March.
2. Remember that the project says that we are to have 3 days of activities (wed - fre) in each country. It is great that people want to travel around Norway a bit but remember that we start at Sortland school on wednesday morning (23rd March) and finish after the leaving party on Friday evening (25th March).

Thanks, Neil.

Trash Collection along the Creek

Some of our Ecoscola Students started a trash collection in Uffenheim. Their teacher Mr. Dahms organized some tools together with the Uffenheim building yard.
The job to do: cleaning the Hainbach creek running through Uffenheim and to find out, which products or which sorts of rubbish have been throwen away e.g. plastic stuff, packages, glass bottles, beer cans, …
Along the way, we took an ice-cream and enjoyed the sun shine.
After nearly two hours, we were not really proud of the so many things we found at „work“.
Back at the building yard, we recycled all the different materials.
In the end, we had great fun during the afternoon walking in the creek and driving the pushcart.

2. sedimentation tank
3. biological treatment by microorganisms and the sprinkler
4. chemical treatment (precipitation)
5. sedimentation tank
6. the overflow ...
to the little river Gollach.
At the end, we were invited to the laboratory to watch protozoa by the microscope and Mr. Mend showed us the control system of the plant with its measured data like pH-value, temprature and inflow.

Trip to Stockholm

The Cvb-Students and teachers stayed at a hotel in Stockholm City as a good starting point for visiting some sights and famous museums.
We were at the Vasa-Museum – where the huge sailing ship Vasa has been rebuilt and conservated. Tradgicly sank this extraordinary ship in stockholms harbour with the first wind on the sails.
Afterwards, we walked through Skansen – amazed by the ancient buildings and handicrafts, but with the swedish wildlife, too. We were astonished, how big moose can be, when they are right in front of oneself.
Another day, natures-historical Reichsmuseum was planed, with its huge halls full of skandinavien wildlife from the sea to the mountains, but also experiments to several subjects were allowed to do for us. In one area, we visited a special exhibitions about climate change all over the world e.g. desertification and destroying landscapes including its special species.
On our last day, we were invited to visit our Stockholms partner-school Nytroppskolan and went to several lessons to get to know something about school-life and teaching in Sweden.
And in the end, we even had enough time to get an impression of city-life, swedish culture and of course shopping as well between our planed program. So we had lots of joy and good impressions to bring home with us.

Water Analysis at the CvB School

We started our examination at the pond close to the CvB-School. Lots of species have been catched, which can show us the biological value over a longer period. So, the inhabitants of an local area are more important than the temporary chemical compound.
